A three-way catalytic converter is generally composed of four parts: a casing, a shock-absorbing layer, a carrier and a catalyst coating. The casing is generally made of stainless steel to prevent the oxide scale from falling off and clogging the carrier causing poor exhaust. The shock-absorbing layer is generally made of expansion gaskets or steel mesh pads, which play the roles of sealing, insulation and fixed carrier.
